William R. Marks, 66, of Birch Lane, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Ellis Hospital. Bill was born in Schenectady to the late Lloyd and Gertrude McLea Marks. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Bill had a 28 year career in law enforcement. He began his career as a member of the town of DeWitt, NY Police Department and then joined the city of Schenectady Police Department. Part of his career in Schenectady included being assigned to the Drug Enforcement Agency. He retired from the Schenectady Police Department as a detective in the Vice Squad. He was a member of the Schenectady Vets Club and the Rotterdam Elks Club. Bill was predeceased by two siblings, James Marks and Mary Jane Young. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Marks; three sons, Lt. Col. U.S. Air Force, Bill (Kara) Marks, II, Brian (Jessica) Marks and Chris (Jill) Marks; three siblings, Thomas Marks, Esther Pardo and Barbara Martin; four grandchildren, Addy, Meghan, Maddie Marks and Chris Marks, Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the calling hours which will be Sunday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted following the calling hours.
