Kenneth J. Omilin, 68, lifelong Schenectady area resident, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at his home in Edinburgh on Sacandaga Lake. Born in Cohoes on May 14, 1949, he was the son of the late John J. and Angela (nee: Bernardi) Omilin. Kenneth served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Kenneth began working with his father at the family's front-end mechanic shop until later owning and operating the business, Omilin's Auto Service, Inc. until his retirement in 2011. During his career, Kenneth also worked at General Electric Co. After retirement, Kenneth worked several jobs throughout the area. He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, NASCAR and spending time on Sacandaga Lake. On June 26, 1999, Kenneth married Margaret Zucchelli-Omilin and in 2009, they moved to Edinburgh. Kenneth was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi in Northville. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; his two daughters, Joyce (Derrick) Mitchell of Rochester and Dawn Lewandowski of Duanesburg; his four step-children, Darren DeVall of Schenectady, April Lin (Christopher) Caudle of Plum Tree, NC, Bradley Bingenheimer of Albany and Lauren Bingenheimer of Schenectady; 10 grandchildren, Ethan and Aiden Mitchell, Michelle Omilin, Bryce and Tyler Lewandowski, Caleb, Addison and Cameron Caudle and Vincent, Jr. and Joseph Pasquarell; his great-grandson, Jayden Omilin; his sister, Patricia Chase of Schenectady; and his niece, Nicole (Richard) Normandin of Niskayuna and several other nieces and nephews. A committal service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 12:45 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville. Following the committal service the family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hibernian Hall, 1748 State St., Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kenneth's memory to St. Francis of Assisi, 501 Bridge St., Northville, NY 12134.
