Becky Williams, or "Becca" as she came to be known, was one of my very dearest friends in high school, along with Faith Boyce, who thankfully is still with us.  They both stood by me in my traumatic junior year, and for this I will always be grateful.  Becky is one of the persons I most wanted to see at the reunion, and it was crushing to learn of her passing.  Her father had been my wood shop teacher.  My father was a highly skilled house carpenter, and so I had a natural inclination to work with wood.  Mr. Williams brought that out in me.  I remember constructing a six-sided rotating poker chip holder with gothic windows, all made of mahogany.  All of the angles had to be cut just right, and the windows required the use of a jig saw.  It was the only "A" I ever got in a shop class.  In my later years I have restored, wholly or in part, three nineteenth century houses.  Both of our fathers are responsible for giving me the guidance and the confidence I needed.
