Roger Earl Musgrove passed away on the morning of October 29. He was born August 15, 1951 in Henderson, Kentucky and died at his home in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Roger was born to Earl Edison Musgrove and Mildred Musgrove (Warrick), the second of their two children, their first being his sister Carol Anne. A military family, the Musgroves moved quite a bit, and Roger grew up in Kentucky, Germany, Northern California, Louisiana, and finally Arizona, where Roger attended high school and met his wife, Susan Patricia Upp. They married just days after turning nineteen and moved to Southern California after Roger graduated from Arizona State University.

He began his long career as an educator in 1974, as a shop teacher at Serrano Junior High School. He taught at several schools in Orange County, California before settling at Trabuco Hills High School, where he spent the majority of his career. There he started an architectural drafting program and served as a master teacher. He retired in 2009. After retirement, he and his wife began their second act by leaving their long time home of Southern California and moving to the mountains of North Carolina, an area of great natural beauty that Roger loved to explore on hikes with friends.

Roger was a man of many talents. He was a jeweler, a furniture maker, a golfer, a drummer, and a general contractor, specializing in home remodels. He and his wife raised their family in a succession of homes, all of which he fixed up and made so much nicer than they were when he moved in. But most importantly, he was a wonderful husband and father, a man who loved his family dearly and to whom nothing was more important.

He and Susan had two children, Bryant Edison Musgrove and Elizabeth Dispeaux Musgrove (now Richmond), and he imparted to them his amazing, if somewhat sick, sense of humor, his great taste in music, and a love for travel, taking his family on many trips as they grew up.

He was also a devoted uncle and mentor to his nephews Alan and Jef Everhart. Roger was an amazing friend, unfailingly loyal to those he loved, and he died as he lived, surrounded by his close friends, his sister, his children and grandchildren, and his wife, with records playing on the stereo.

He is survived by his wife, his kids and their spouses, Megan Berk Musgrove and Matthew Kenneth Richmond, both of whom he adored, and his granddaughters, Lois May Musgrove and Margaux Avalee Richmond.

A service for close family and friends was held at his home on November 1, followed by a celebration of his life at the Kenmure Country Club. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org). Roger will be remembered well by all those who knew and loved him.
