Barbara Grambo Hoover of Rockville, Md., died on July 15. She was the wife of David Hoover for 42 years.
Born in Scranton, on March 9, 1947, to Dorothy Grambo and the late Leroy O. Grambo, she lived in Rockville for the past 30 years. Barbara graduated from Central High School in Scranton in 1965, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Houghton College in 1969. Much later, she earned a master of arts in 1998, and a Ph.D. in 2004 in science education from the University of Maryland. A former member of Grace Bible Church in Dunmore, she was a member of Church of the Atonement in Silver Spring, Md., where she was active for many years in teaching Sunday school, serving as a guide and coordinator for girls' groups and participating in Bible studies. A passionate teacher, she taught middle school and high school at Washington Christian Academy in Silver Spring. She recently held adjunct teaching positions at Towson University, the University of Maryland and Montgomery College. Her hobbies included reading, traveling, outdoor activities, photography and cooking.
Survivors also include a daughter, Cindi Hoover, Concord, Calif.; and a sister, Marcia Bertram, Meshoppen; a grandson; and six nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy Grambo.
Memorial donations may be made to Church of the Atonement or the Salvation Army. A memorial service was held at Church of the Atonement on Saturday. Cremation was provided by Going Home Cremation Service of Clarksville, MD.
