Theresa Pitcavage (Myers)

Theresa Pitcavage Myers, 62, of Hamlin, died Friday morning at Mercy Hospice Care after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Rich.

Born April 27, 1947, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Pitcavage. Theresa graduated from Scranton Central High School and received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Marywood College. She continued her educational pursuit and earned a master’s degree from Wilkes University.

She began her teaching career at Salem Twp. Elementary School and continued teaching within Western Wayne School District. Theresa had a passion for learning and shaping the lives of the many children who were entrusted with her guidance through their early, formative years. After 35 years as a dedicated teacher, Theresa retired in December 2007 to devote her time to her family and friends.

Theresa enjoyed working in her yard, daily walks on her country road and spending time with friends at Curves Fitness Center. She was involved in many church and community activities. Most of all, Theresa loved to be surrounded by family and friends.

Survivors also include three children, Scott, Maplewood; Paul, Pittsburgh; and Gail, Columbia, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Rose Pitcavage, Connecticut; a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Jack Biddix, South Carolina; a sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Jim Smith, Erie; a brother, Robert Pitcavage, Hamlin; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She also was preceded in death by a niece, Lori Anne Biddix.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas More Church, 105 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel. Anyone planning to attend the funeral may go directly to the church. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
