Timothy Spear

Timothy J. Spear, 62, of Long Grove, Iowa, and formerly of Scranton, died Dec. 31 at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa, after being stricken ill. He and his wife, the former Kathleen A. Moffitt, were married in Scranton on April 21, 1972.

Born Nov. 17, 1947, in Arlington, Va., son of the late William J. and Marie Krupovich Spear, he was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Penn State University. He entered the Army in November 1968 and was honorably discharged in May 1970 after serving an extended tour of duty in South Vietnam and Cambodia. He then spent his career working as a cost engineer and analyst for the nuclear-power industry, recently retiring from Bechtel Corp.

Tim was a proud member of the Long Grove Sportsman's Club, where he had served as secretary and treasurer. He also served as a safety steward for the Sports Car Club of America. He had recently been elected to serve on the Long Grove City Council.

Tim enjoyed life to the fullest and was always ready to help out or have a friendly chat with a neighbor.

Also surviving are a daughter, Kaitlin Josie Spear, Davenport; two brothers, Bill and wife, Sharon, Rochester, N.Y.; and Paul and wife, Mindi, Clarks Summit; an aunt, Helen Krupovich, Washington, D.C.; several nieces and nephews, to whom he was Uncle Jimmy; and his beloved dog, Jasmine.

Celebration of Life services will be today in Park View, Iowa, and at a later date in Pennsylvania.

Memorials may be made to Carl Jacobson American Legion Post 639, Eldridge, Iowa, where he was a member.

His cremains will be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.
