Lyn left high school and in July 1957 married Bobby Baldwin from Glenwood Landing and Roslyn High School. Then soon had the first of their four boys while living in St. James in Suffolk County.

Lyn devoted herself to raising the boys and maintaining their home while Bobby sold plumbing and heating equipment. In 1971 Lyn began working as a nurse’s aide in a local nursing home. The state had not yet begun to impose very specific regulations on what a nursing home could require of an aide, and the work was often heavy and hard. “Nurse’s aids did everything before the state stepped in and limited what they could do,” Lyn says.

Building on more than ten years’ experience, she went to school to learn medical coding and then entered the business world as our ’57 yearbook said she would. Until Bobby retired in 1996 Lyn worked in medical billing. By that time one son had bought a large property in Hopkinsville in western Kentucky and they moved nearby.

Today she is “Just enjoying not working.” But she also became an avid reader twenty years ago. She remembers with some irony her time in Norman Ross’s English class. The old Man and the Sea drove me nuts. That was not a good experience. I threw my education away. I was too busy having fun.” However, at least two classmates who remember her well, appreciate all the fun they had in those years, and Lyn’s contribution to it, in and out of school. For one of her friends who had serious problems at home, Lyn and others were a safe and understanding haven where laughter also healed. That friend remembers finding Lyn again years later through Classmates.com and says, “It was the best day of my life when she contacted me.”

If Lyn had the chance to take Dr. Ross’s class again, she says she would do it. “Maybe the light bulb just went on,” she says about her interest in reading. Being in Kentucky, she finds Civil War history interesting and also reads a lot of biography and some fiction.
