Notice: Katharine's Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, November 10 at 1:00PM at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture, 3501 NE 41st Street, Seattle.  Attendees are encouraged to wear floral and bright colors for the celebration.

Survived By: Husband David McGrady, daughter Anna McGrady, son Charlie McGrady (Siena Tenesci), grandson Emory (born 08/08/22), mother Sheila, and brothers Bates, Jonathan, Charlie, David, and Jon McKee.

Katharine was a development economist and worked throughout her career for economic justice for the very poor of the world. She worked for the Ford Foundation in West Africa and Self-Help in North Carolina (the largest Community Development Financial Institution in the US). She directed the Microenterprise Development office at USAID and worked for the World Bank before retiring to Seattle. Katharine was kind, loving, nurturing, smart, funny, curious, and devoted to her family and friends. She was able to hold her first grandchild just days before her tragic and sudden death. She lit up every place she went, not by focusing on herself and her accomplishments, but by making every person feel important and valued. She will be deeply missed by her Shorecrest friends, especially Miriam Hewitt and Julie Olson.

I am devastated at losing one of my longtime best friends. Katharine was incomparable. Always made everyone feel special, while remaining so humble, despite her world-changing work. She balanced everything seemingly effortlessly - work, family, a wide network of friends, travel, and adventure. I will miss her so very much. This photo from our 40th Shorecrest reunion is one of my favorites.
