Always quick with a laugh and a joke, Doris had a great sense of mischief and irony. She was my first roommate after HS, calling me just after Christmas of 72, and asking, did I want to share an apartment with her? I didn't hesitate, moving in on New Year's Day (my folks were out of town & came home to a note taped to a kitchen cabinet). I never regretted the choice. Doris didn't raise her voice or curse, she didn't need to. If she felt a situation warrented it, she'd dip her chin, look out over her tortoise shell glasses, lock eyes and let you know what she thought. We were roommates for about 8 months, when she left the area. We kept up for a couple of years, but we eventually lost track of each other due to moves. I'm sorry I missed knowing her later in life.
