Admin Note: Susan's husband Bob notified us that Susan passed away on January 10, 2018. Our condolences to Bob and family. Susan will be missed.
Upon graduating from high school, I attended Everett Jr. College and then transferred to the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. I majored in Teaching, but after 3 1/2 years I got married, and we traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia (we lived there instead of base housing), so Bob could finish his last year in the Army at Fort Eustis. Then we drove up the east coast and caught the trans-Canadian highway heading back to Seattle. What a trip that was! Since we were camping, we met a lot of interesting people.
Once we were in Seattle, Bob enrolled in school, and I got a job. When David was about to be born, I resigned from my job so I could be a fulltime Mom. I have never regretted that decision! I guess my 3 1/2 years in college didn't go to waste after all :-)!
We were volunteers representing an organization called Ariel Ministries. Bob knew he wanted to work fulltime with them, but he was told that one of the qualifications was to go to seminary. That lead us to Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in Portland, OR. Upon his graduation, we started Kehilat HaMashiah (Hebrew for Congregation of the Messiah). After seven years, one of the board members from Ariel flew up to Portland to propose that we come down to Southern California so Bob could be the Executive Director for Ariel. After much discussion, we decided to accept the offer. And that's why we are down here in Tustin, CA.
After we found a church, Bob was asked to be an elder. It was then that he learned the pastor had a dream of being part of a Bible school based out of our church and that was my husband's dream also. One thing lead to another, and in April 2001 Bob resigned for Ariel and became the Director of HaDavar Messianic Ministries. The school is called the School of Biblical and Jewish Studies. (You can take our classes on-line. Go to www.hadavar.org. Hover over School of Biblical and Jewish Studies. Click on online classes. Scroll to the class you are interested in. Enjoy! End of commercial.) My part in all of this has been as a volunteer helping to get things ready to go, typing manuscripts, proof reading, etc.
I do wish that I could attend the reunion, but it's just not possible. I pray that it is a HUGE success. The planning committee has done a wonderful job of lining up a variety of fun activities for everyone!
Update: When Bob turned 67, he resigned, and we now live in Johnson City, OR just 12 miles south of Portland, OR.
