A woman who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 75 was killed Wednesday morning when her car was hit by an oncoming semitrailer truck.
According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, Amanda Leigh Gill, 24, of Brandon was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-75, about 2 miles north of the Pasco-Hernando county line, about 3 a.m. when she approached a truck driven by John R. Powell of Largo.
The 1996 Freightliner truck that Powell was driving swerved right in an attempt to avoid Gill's 1996 Mitsubishi, reports said, but the vehicles collided head-on. Gill was pronounced dead at the scene, records said. Powell, 36, was uninjured.

Authorities did not know Wednesday afternoon whether alcohol had been a factor.
