Carey Finn (1969)

Peggy Johnson, Your husband provided me some of the most cherished moments of my interscholastic high school athletic career. In his first ever stint as a Baseball Coach at NHS he "managed" to secure his JV team an undefeated season in 1967. I remember him taking extreme pleasure during fielding practice to hit the hardest ground balls he could muster square at me. Sometimes he would forsake hitting balls to the the other infielders and hit 5 or 6 vicious grounders at me just to try to have me miss one. I seldom did and this was the game we played ..."Bet ya you miss this one" -- "Bet ya I don't!". During weight training for Football he would excuse me from lifting just so he could get in a good handball game with me. He'd win, I'd win and back and forth for a whole season. I might not have bulked up like the other guys but nobody could match my footwork and hand-eye co-ordination. I wish I could have thanked him in person last month when I returned to L.I. for the NHS HOF Ceremony. I have thought of Carl many times since I left High School. All good memories. I won't forget him.
