Anne Marie Moy (Social Studies)

In Memory, Anne Marie Moy, April 16, 1944 - December 13, 2004

Anne Marie Moy, Teacher Newfield High School, Graduate of Seton Hall High School, Patchogue, NY, Class of 1962 and College of Mount St. Vincent, Class of 1966.

Anne Marie Moy, born April 16, 1944 passed away on December 13, 2004 in Savannah, Georgia at the age of 60.  She succumbed to cancer.

We all knew her as a very special person who cared about and connected to her students. While at Newfield, in her formative teaching years, she took on other roles as Advisor of The History Club (1966-1969), Sophomore Class Advisor (1968) and Junior Class Advisor (1969).

She moved to Savannah, Georgia and became a Savannah Health Mission Volunteer. The United Way added a new award in 2005 in honor of former volunteer Anne Moy, who died in 2004 after a battle with cancer. The award ($1000.00) was presented to members of L.O.V.E. Mentors (Landings Outreach Volunteer Educators), a volunteer youth tutoring program sponsored by five churches on Skidaway Island.

Carey Finn (1969)

There were two things that I looked forward to about going to Newfield H.S. in my first year of 1966/67.  (Actually there were three.  The third which really has no place here was my fondness for seeing how well the girls were dressed then.)  ...The main things however that kept me interested in school were Football and or Baseball practice every day and ALWAYS seeing a smile on Miss Anne Moy's face while a student in her History Class.  I seemed to go out of my way and sometimes way out of classroom context and decorum to get additional smiles on her face.  For that conduct I was often politely reminded in a gentle but firm method, that always started out with being addressed as Mr. Finn, that I should get back on task and back in line.  It was very easy to comply because when she scolded me she couldn't hide her smile with what I had said or done that caused her to respond to my classroom indescretions.  I can see and hear her now, this very moment, from the place UP HIGH cautioning me in the manner she did many years ago. She is now telling me, by using my surname, that my comment within this writing regarding how good the girls dressed back in the day, was not germaine or appropriate in this type of communication.  "Mr. Finn. May I remind you to stay on task and within the proper bounds of this topic?"  "Yes, Miss Moy...(because I can see you trying to hide that smile but you can't)"

Miss Moy was one of those special teachers you don't easily forget. I used to look forward to her class.

I remember her telling us she once dated Brian Kullen the heir to the King Kullen chain.

Rest in peace Miss Moy, and thank you.
