Peter was born in Brooklyn. Raised in Selden and graduated from Newfield High School in 1966. He received his BA in Education from the State University of New York at Geneseo. Peter was a trade union representative for the International Federation of Teachers' Union in Amsterdam, worked for the American Federation of Teachers, Washington, D.C. and was a volunteer for Junior Achievement. Peter was politically active and served as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in 1980. Peter orgainized the first international educational conference on HIV Aids for educators in Africa. Peter was multi-lingual, and through his work, traveled the world extensively, where he enjoyed meeting people of all cultures. Peter loved music and the arts.
