I am so sad to hear that I have lost my precious friend, Anne Manning.  I will always remember her beautiful smile that she shared with everyone and the kindness she showed to all of us everyday.  During our sophomore and junior years, she and I were part of a group that exchanged Christmas gifts.  To this day I use the Christmas ornaments she geve me as her gifts.  The Santa Claus goes on Mama's and Daddy's tree (still after almost 40 years), and I use the yellow yarn-haired angel on my personal tree.  I always think of her when I get them out of the boxes.  What a dear, sweet, gentle soul.  The world needs more people like Anne Manning.

No one in Anne's family would know I exist. Still, being a Campbell with the obvious alphabetical link at times brought me physically near her. Were we best buddies? No, not really, but for one class I shared with Anne, Eleventh grade Chemistry, she and I were lab partners. I had seen Anne countless times. That tall lean frame, kind face, head held high not pretentious but aware of her stature. Anne struck me not as really shy, more careful. I was quick to flirt and found her adorable but quickly my goal with Anne was clear. I sought to by the end of our time togther to be sure she knew I was her friend. Just a guy who would admire her conservative confidence and once in a great while deserve the glow of a sweet smile that is as clear in my mind as if it were yesterday. She gave me that, and as Anne carefully seemed to do so meticulously gave me more. Sharing the Manning in her name proudly, and truly trusting me with her guard down a bit, joking quietly with me. She was my buddie. She stood next to me at graduation, I dont recall if we hugged, and in my Senior Annual is her brief message recalling me as "the best lab partner a girl could ask for". Sweet, but next to this ambivoulous quip was my true gift, her art in the form of one of her famous ants. The ink on that masterpeice barely dry and here I am saying goodbye. Like too many, 1979 was the last time I saw Anne, but far from the only time she crossed my thoughts. I do do not know where life took you but I know in my heart that wherever it was, good or bad you stood tall, elegant, graceful. It is such that you live forever in my heart. I end as you did in the last words written to me..Your Buddy, Lane Campbell
