Obituary for Warren Bright

Warren Bright, 62, of Seneca, SC, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, at Cottingham Hospice House, surrounded by his wife, Susan Quarles Bright, and daughters, Brianna Taylor (Josh) and Leah Bright (Julien Boyon). He was affectionately known as “GusGus” by his twin grandchildren, Lindy and Finn Taylor, who loved him dearly. 

Warren is survived by his stepmother, Sue Land Bright, and siblings: Stuart Bright, Brian Bright, Mitchell Bright, Susie Groomes, Kevin Lyda, and Kim Lyda. Warren was preceded in death by his father Oscar Bright and mother Patricia Smith Lyda. 

Warren was a lifelong resident of Seneca, SC. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1980, and Clemson University in 1986. He began his career helping with the construction of Bad Creek Hydro Station and then transferred to Oconee Nuclear Station where he worked until 2015. 

As a long-time member of Utica Baptist Church, he taught Children’s Church as well as Sunday School for college students and young couples. An avid cyclist, Warren was a founder and 19-year participant of Ride 4 Life, an annual fundraising bike ride from the foothills to the coast of South Carolina (300 miles in 3 days), in support of the Foothills Care Center. Warren loved his hometown of Seneca and served on Seneca City Council for 6 years. He enjoyed collecting comic books, riding his Harley, and camping with friends and family. 

Known for his “Bright” personality and big smile, Warren never met a stranger, was a friend to all, and was always willing to help others. 

Warren bravely battled Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia during the last 9 years of his life. While this period of his life was not easy, he continued to be a strong, encouraging, and loving presence to his friends and family. 

A memorial service will be held at Utica Baptist Church on Friday, December 6 at 10:00 AM followed by a reception in the dining hall.
