Kelly Sue Godbey (Evatt) - Class Of 1983

Kelly Sue Godbey (Evatt)

Kelly was the beautiful wife of Mike Evatt and the precious mother of Molly, age 22, and Andrew Evatt, age 18. Born on October 17, 1965 in Hartford, Conn., Kelly was the daughter of Theresa W. Godbey and the late Luther C. Godbey of Seneca. She was a 1983 graduate of Seneca High School where she served as editor of the school newspaper. She also attended Lander University. She was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she taught a two-year-old Sunday school class and was a member of the Sisters in Service. Known as “Ms. Kelly” to all her children she babysat and taught over the years, she often mailed cards to the children of the church and community covered with fun stickers, and she was a blessing to all who knew her in life.

Kelly was such a good friend to me in high school. Although we did not keep in touch, I often thought of her. I will always remember her laugh and the fun times that we had together.

Kelly was loved by many many people. I don't think she really knew how many lives she touched while she walked on the earth. She never met a stranger. When she spoke to you she made you feel as if you had known her all your life. I was blessed to have known her.

I hadn't seen Kelly since graduation but at the 20th class reunion, she was one of the very few that I knew right off who she was. She still looked the same with just a few gray hairs and the same smile.

Kelly was a character! We wrote funny jingles about wearing glasses and those "little metal things that cause decay"(braces). We sometimes drove too fast and planned a quick tale for that "just in case we get caught" moment. Oh, how we laughed! I will remember her ouote until my dying day, "Nobody can say Ol' Kelly Godby can't drink!" I saw her several times through the years, planned to get together, but we were busy with life. I will treasure her memory forever! She blessed my life. I loved her dearly.

Kelly was my sister. I miss her very much. She loved her family, children and her church. Kelly started having seizures about a year a half before her death. They did all kinds of test but one - a stress test. She died of a heart attack July 2008. What a big shock. Our father had just passed away five months before with cancer and my grandmother five months before him with the same cancer. She will live in my heart forever.
