Nina Gysland (Howard) - Class of 1970

Nina has been working many years as a nurse in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Ohio where she recently moved to but hasn't fully moved out of Kentucky, She has been taken much too abruptly from her family and friends in a unfortunate car accident in Ohio.

Carolyn Alexis 'Nina' Howard

VANLUE -- Carolyn Alexis "Nina" Howard, 60, of Vanlue, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013 due to injuries received from a car accident. She was born on September 17, 1952 to Clifford and Eftihia "Effie" (Pappagianis) Gysland in Beirut, Lebanon. Nina married Steve Howard on April 20, 2000 and he survives.

She is also survived by her mother, Eftihia Gysland of Colorado; a son, John Cox of Phoenix, AZ, a daughter, Erica (Douglas II) Witherington of Shakopee, MN; two brothers: Paul Gysland of VA and Harry Gysland of CO; a sister, Inga Hughes of TX; a nephew, Timothy Hughes of TX and three grandchildren: Chloe and Douglas III "Trey" Witherington and Alex Cox.


Nina received her Masters of Nursing from the University of Arkansas and received her Wound Care Certification. She worked as a nurse practitioner in Arkansas and later as a nurse at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.

She loved her horses and held memberships in the American Painted Horse Association and the Ohio Painted Horse Association.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 and from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the funeral home. Pastor Steven Ramsey will officiate.
