Jody, Barry's wife has indicated there will be an opportunity for Barry's friend and classmates to share their memories of Barry following the service.

Former Langley resident Barry Michael Levit, 74, passed away at home on February 25, 2024. Barry was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 15, 1950, the son of Harold and Frieda Levit. He was a 1968 graduate of Shaker Heights High School. He received a BA in Social Work from the University of Toledo in 1972, and a Master’s degree in Education from Washington State University in 1978.
After college, Barry was a Vista volunteer in Nome, Alaska. There he married Kate Angnabooguk in 1976. They have two sons, Timothy and Casey. They moved to Fairbanks in 1981 where he worked for the State of Alaska, often traveling to the small remote villages. He also had private counseling practice. Barry’s passion was baseball and in 1988 he attended Mets Fantasy camp; a dream fulfilled.
In 2006 Barry married Jody Johnson in Homer, AK. Their plans for retirement took a detour when they adopted his three grandchildren, Kyra, Ava and Jack. The family moved to Whidbey Island, WA in 2011. Barry continued his private practice and kept busy with the kids’ sports, 4-H fairs, and dance events.
In 2023 the family moved to Lawrence, KS. He continued his private practice, a profession he so enjoyed, until his death.
Barry is survived by his wife Jody, his children Kyra, Ava and Jack of the home, his sons Timothy and Casey of Fairbanks, AK, his stepson Garrett Gonzales of Afton, WY, his sister Leslie Friedman of Phoenix, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Augustine’s in the Woods, Freeland, WA on June 8th at 2:00 p.m.
Condolences may be sent to Warren McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence, KS. warrenmcelwain.com

Hello Friends,
This is Jody, Barry's wife. I wanted to let you know that Barry passed away this past Sunday. We, the children and I, are heartbroken. He was a wonderful human, a great husband and father.
Barry was in chronic severe pain from his back and hand surgeries. He is now pain free and at peace.
I will post further information about a memorial as we plan it.

Barry and I became good friends in 4th or 5th grade at Lomond. I thought he was one of the funniest and nicest friends I had at Lomond and we stayed in touch until we finished college and each began our respective life journeys. I ended up in Florida and Barry was in Alaska. One day out of the blue he reached out to me and told me of his upcoming wedding to Jody in July of 2006. It had been many, many years since we had seen each other, but it was great to hear from him. I told him that I had never been to Alaska and that I would gladly attend the festive occasion in Homer. It was a great trip and it was nice to reconnect with Barry and to visit with his mother and sister while we were there for the wedding. We stayed in touch "semi-regularly" in the time that followed and I was planning a reunion in Lawrence with Barry and Paul Chizek once Barry had settled in with the family in Lawrence. I am saddened by his passing but I take comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain, and is healthy and happy.
May his memory be a blessing.
