SUZANNE SAHLEY RAPPAPORT - far right

Dear fellow Shakerites, it is with HEAVY HEART to inform you that our dear Shaker friend Sue Sahley has passed on. She had been in a lot of pain in her last days and at last, she’s free of that. I last spoke with her a  couple of weeks ago and I sensed she knew that her time for passing was getting close because she gave me the phone numbers of her son and her ex. And in contacting them, is how I learned that our dear Shaker friend Sue has passed on. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. I will especially miss her on my upcoming trip to Cleveland in July. In Loving Memory of our dear Shaker friend, bobby kirschenbaum

Dear fellow Shakerites, one more thing regarding the passing of Sue Sahley. Sue was a very gifted singer, songwriter who put together two albums of her music. I’m always enchanted when I listen to them. Here’s an online link to her magical music/ I hope it works that you can access the songs online. And below are the cover pics of the two cds she put together. xoxoxo, bobby kirschenbaum

I'm very sad to hear of Sue's death. My condolences to her family. Bobby, thanks so much for posting her songs. I had no idea, though she always had a special quality. The songs and her voice are beautiful!

I remember Sue as being such a nice person and so involved in theater, part of that talented thespian group that put on such memorable productions in high school. When I heard this sad news, I looked back at our '68 yearbook and noticed one photo of her with her guitar. I knew she sang, but was blown away by the music Bobby posted. Sue had an amazing voice, and her songs are part of one of my new playlists. My favorite is The Seagull Song, which a couple of my kids liked so much, they added it to a playlist. She was truly talented.

In English class, I remember Mr. Starr commenting that Sue Sahley's writing was "a miracle of conciseness." Sue's essays were consistently about two-thirds of a page in length, while everyone else in her class required a full page or more. It makes sense that her gift for conveying much meaning in few words applied so well to writing songs. I still treasure talking with Sue at a reunion, and seeing her face light up as I recalled Mr. Starr's remark from long ago!

I'm deeply saddened by this news.  Sue was a charming, lovely person, a gifted artist and shared my passion for music...and cats.  I virtually lived in Sue's family house on Shaker Blvd. during the "Summer of Love" or maybe the year after? [aged mind].  Sue's baby brother, Richard (known to me as Rick), was a best friend and bandmate.  We, Scott Jefferies or Bill Deutchman on bass,  Arthur Dietz, Rick Sahley and Mike Wolfson, who moved to Chicago before our graduation playing guitars, practiced in Sue's basement and played for SHHS cast parties, or "after concert shows" in their massive living room.  Some of you may remember parties at their house.

I frequently bedded in the (probable) servant's quarters, two bedrooms and a bath with a back stairs down to the kitchen.  Those were among the best days of my life.  Sue sang with our band in practices and at least once at a  "cast party".  As a singer, Sue was way too good for us but a joy to hear.  Fun every day.

Condolences to all her friends and family.   A great loss to us all, but wonderful memories from school and recent reunions.
