Life has been busy since St.Greg's in 81. Went to Oklahoma State and St. Anthony's School of Nursing, got married, had a kid, had a kid, had a kid, had a kid, had a kid, had a kid, had a kid, had a kid, never slept or rested since! But I love being a mom,home-schooling, raising labrador and Jack Russel Terrier pups, Ragdoll cats, reading, writing, riding, keeping up with friends ....Nothing out of the ordinary. Job, what's a job?
Well, there are so many. I still like to picture Fr. Denis in the front seat of my '71 Camero with the big tires, with four co-eds driving through Shawnee on the way to buy Maureen, Sarah, Barb and me BBQ for dinner.
Then there is the Sacred Heart overnight trail ride that I attended with a SUPREME hangover, starting with the 'silent' monastery breakfast witnessing Fr. D. with scrambled eggs in his beard, trying not to laugh out loud, and then Terry Koelsch falling down a very steep ravine while out hiking with me. Glad you didn't die, Terry!
But I like the underwear escapade best, when we girls stole the guys (clean) underwear at open dorms, labeled it and hung it over the cafeteria for all to see. THAT was fun!
I remember walking by the small pond near the church one cold fall day and seeing Maureen McHugh attempting to remove herself from it. It was slippery and oh, so wet, so I had to run over and give her a hand. There were some very suspicious male characters near by laughing.
I think it was the same characters who played a prank on me. I always had an 8:00 am. class (thank you staff) and one morning on my way, I saw my Camero parked on the tennis courts! I had to run to get my keys and move it and try not to be late to Coach Sumner's class. Have you ever been late to his class?!
The one memory that terrifies me, is the trip four of us took during Easter break to Galveston. We took Barb Link's old 1950-style aqua-green car that had a door on the driver's side that wouldn't close. Barb kept a rope tied around it! Well, on the trip it started to pour rain. When Barb turned on the wipers, they did not work. Since she would not pull over, I got on the floor of the car saying, "We are going to die!" She had her arm stuck out through the open window using it for a wiper. Don't know why we are here today!
