katie was always so shy and quiet and so incredibly smart......she was my lab partner "dans le labo" in french class. she always knew every conjugation of every verb. i was envious. i remember secretly competing with her in our biology class..... i wanted to get a higher overall grade at the end of the semester. eventually, i did get the better grade but she topped my grade in every other subject and topped nearly all of our marks at the end of our high school careers graduating in the top of the class. she went off to the university of michigan while i stayed home. we became pen pals. she wrote me all the time telling me of her transformation from shy, quiet, be-speckled katie into a more out going, contact lens wearing katherine. she was doing so well in school, working in a lab, she got a cute haircut... i could feel the smile on her face when i read her letters. she was getting physically fit and started running.... i was devastated when i learned that she was killed by a hit and run driver while she was doing something that brought her such happiness. such a beautiful person, inside and out, needlessly killed in such a horrible tragedy. when i saw her in her casket at the funeral home, i almost didn't recognize her. she looked stunning. i often wonder what incredible things she would have done with her life. the discoveries she would have made. perhaps a cure for a deadly disease..... unfortunately, we will never get to know what she may have become in our world but a piece of me is happy knowing that she resides as an angel watching over all of us from another world. God bless you Katie and our other classmates who have passed on and God bless all of the graduates of the class of 1990 and your families. all of you hold a special place in my heart and i look forward to rekindling old friendships and seeing all of you at our reunion. rick anthony bonner

Katie was an absolute sweetheart. She was always willing to help. I know she came from a large family. I remember her mom having a baby boy either our junior or senior year. Katie was so excited. So sad to think her brother would barely get to know her.

Katie was the first friend I made when I moved to Shelby in the 8th grade. She lived across the street. She and her 4 sisters (Maryann, Jean, Laurie, and Nancy) also attended St. John Vianney church with my family, and I remember Katie and I being narrators in the 9th grade Christmas play. We played tennis in the street, and when we could drive, I would often bum rides from her to early morning NHS meetings. She was very sweet, smart, and willing to help. I know she would have made an excellent pediatrician. Her death was such a tragedy, her funeral, heart-breaking. I still think of her often when I pass by the old house. I am lucky to have known her. Heaven is even luckier to have her.
