Three Die In Traffic Crash
Three Mason County residents were killed and two were injured in a head-on collision between automobiles on the Binns-Swiger Road in the Arcadia area.
Killed in the accident were Terry L. Pierce, 22, St. Rt. 1, Box ?, Shelton and Walter Eash, ?, Rt. 3, Box 383D, Shelton, drivers of the two vehicles, and Joanna Hedgers, 2, Rt. 3, Shelton, a passenger in the Pierce vehicle.
The injured were Patricia Baker, 15, Rt. 1, McCleary and Cassandra Hedgers, 3, Rt. 3, Shelton, both passengers in the Pierce vehicle.
Miss Baker was taken to Shelton General Hospital suffering from concussion, fractured ribs and other injuries. The Hedgers girl was taken to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma suffering from a fractured right leg, fractured jaw and numerous bruises and abrasions.
The Washington State Patrol, which investigated the accident, said the Pierce vehicle was northbound on the Binns-Swiger Road and the Eash vehicle southbound on the same road.
The Patrol said the Pierce vehicle was travelling in the center of the roadway when the collision occurred.
The Pierde vehicle had been persued from Shelton by a Mason County Deputy Sheriff, the Patrol said, but the deputy had lost sight of the vehicle before the collision. He came on it as he came over a hill while attempting to relocate the vehicle.

Mr. Pierce was born Feb. 12, 1947 in Bremerton and was life-long resident of Mason County. He was employed as a mechanic at the time of his death.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Pierce, Hoodsport; three brothers, Roy, Hoodsport; Gerald, Union, and Dwight, U. S. Navy; one sister, Mrs. Darrell (Hettie) Rodgers, Sitka, Alaska.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Batstone Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Gain officiating. Burial was in Shelton Memorial Park with Batstone Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
