A Shelton couple was killed in a two-car traffic accident shortly after midnight Saturday on the Dayton Cutoff Road, the Washington State Patrol reported. Dead are Thomas Lee Longacre, 32, and his wife, Nancy, 32, 2022 Madison St., Shelton. Longacre was the driver of a vehicle which was involved in a collision with a vehicle driven by David G. Merritt, 31, 120 Kneeland, Shelton, the patrol said. The accident occured about a mile west of the Washington Correction Center on the Dayton Cutoff Road at 12:12 a.m. Saturday. The patrol said both vehicles were eastbound on the Dayton Cutoff Road and collided as the Longacre vehicle was attempting to pass the Merritt vehicle. The patrol said the Longacre vehicle continued down the road 150 feet after the collision, striking a large tree and concrete building. The Merritt vehicle left the roadway to the right and struck a stump, the patrol said. Mrs. Longacre was a passenger in the vehicle driven by her husband. Both died a the scene, the patrol said. Thomas Longacre was born February 28, 1944 in Shelton and Nancy Longacre was born April 7, 1944 in Tacoma. They are survived by a daughter, April Joanne, Shelton. Mrs. Longacre was employed by Dr. Lynn White at the time of her death. Other survivors include her parents, Mary and Jack Siedelman, Lakebay, and sister, Mrs. Roy (Jackie) Balkenende, Olalla. Mr. Longacre was employed by Certified manufacturing Co. a the time of his death. In addition to the daughters, he is survived by his parents, Alice and Roy Longacre, Shelton; a brother, Alan Longacre, Olympia, and a sister, Mrs. Bill (Linda) Ells Jr., Shelton. A brief memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at 2022 Madison St. Ron Jacobson will give the eulogy.
