Mary Rettkowski passed away on Friday, February 11, 2005, at her home on the family farm south of Wilbur (Washington). She was 59. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, at the Wilbur Lutheran Church with Pastor Sherry Couey fo the Sonrise Foursquare Church officiating. Strate Funeral Home of Wilbur is in charge of arrangements. Mary was born October 12, 1945, at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina to Jesse and Margaret (Cormier) Tobler. As a child, she moved around from place to place while her father was in the military, but later the family settled in Shelton, Washington. She graduated from Shelton High School (1963) and then attended Washington State University, where she attained a Bachelors degree. She married Gale Rettkowski of Wilbur in Shelton on February 10, 1968. After the wedding, they moved back to Wilbur where they helped run the Rettkowski family farm. They continued to live on the farm throughout the 37 years of their marriage. Mary is survived by her husband, Gale Rettkowski, at the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracey and Jim Prophet of Spokane and Shauni and Kevin Ross of Wilbur; one son, Jeff Rettkowski of Spokane; and six grandchildren, Jaceya, Caleb, Chad, Noah, Jaimie, and Emily. Other survivors include her parents, Jesse and Margaret Tobler of Shelton; two brothers, Donald Tobler of Bossier City, Louisiana and William Tobler of Bear, Delaware; one sister, Norma Kaye of Sandy, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was a member of the Sonrise Foursquare Church of Wilbur. She was a Girl Scout leader and helped with 4-H. She was very involved in the activities of her children and grandchildren, and loved being a wife, mom, and grandma. These were the greates joys of her life. Mary enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, traveling, taking pictures, water and snow skiing, and golf. Memorials may be made to the Community Swimming Pool Foundation, the Wilbur Community Center, or the charity of the donor's choice.
