Three From Shelton Killed In Accident: Three persons from Shelton were killed at 7:40 p.m. Saturday on Highway 3 about 1-½ miles north of Bremerton in a head-on collision. The dead included David William Cornell, 23, 1524 Mason St., Alice Savage, 18, Rt. 2, Box 998 and her son, Vincent Scott Savage, two months. The car in which the three were riding and one driven by Robert Cordero, 41, 6137 Erland Point Rd., Bremerton, collided as the Cordero vehicle traveled down the road out of control after sideswiping another vehicle while passing a line of cars, according to the State Patrol. Cordero and a passenger in his vehicle, Edward Moser, 34, USS Ranger, were also killed in the crash. According to the State Patrol, the Cordero vehicle, traveling at high speeds, was passing a string of cars on the highway, and, when attempting to pull back into the line of traffic to avoid oncoming traffic, sideswiped a car driven by Robert F. Kieckhaefer, 69, Bremerton. The Kieckhaefer vehicle plunged off into a field, but, the driver was not injured. After the sideswipe, the Patrol said, the Cordero car continued to fishtail back and forth in the oncoming lane of traffic and crashed into the Cornell vehicle head on. Kitsap County Coroner Don Ireland said all of the victims died of extensive head injuries and all had broken legs. The baby was taken to the U. S. Naval Hospital where it was pronounced dead while the mother and Cornell were taken to Harrison Memorial Hospital also dead on arrival.
