In Memory

Roger Lawson - Class Of 1970

Roger lost his battle to cancer 10-13-2006 at the age of 54.  He is survived by his wife Becki Lawson, Sons James Lawson, Tacoma and Zac Lawson of Olympia, Mother Lucille Lawson, and brother Ken Lawson of Shelton.

Roger was an artist, muscian, scientist, historian and a completely unique individual.  He was well liked across all generations and seemed to know everyone.  He is missed every day by many, many people.  He was the love of Becki's life.

Robert McClanahan (1970)

Music and horror movies, that's what I remember.  Rog always wanted to be the wolfman!! Lots of Friday nights staying up late for "Nightmare Theater" and the now hokey old movies they used to show on channel 7. Roger and I were friends for over 45 years! We spent a lot of time at each others homes. The first attempt at a band for me was with Roger and his brother, Kenny, playing down at the grange hall just down the road from his house.  Seems like yesterday I rode out to the Hood Canal school with Rog and Ken for their first jam with Randy and Mike Linder. That was the end of my playing days (till later) with Rog and the birth of their first band LYNX. I miss him and Mike Linder (my son is named after him), but I look forward to seeing them both again some day.

Robert Lee (1970)

I first met Rog in 1953 when I was 18 months old and he was 17 months! His dad, Verl, shot a home video of us out in their front yard in Missouri. When Roger got his first drum set and Ken got his first bass. I lived next door and was learning to play on Verls Fender electric guitar. That was around '65 or '66. We used to go down to the Little Skookum grange hall and jam for hours. I don't recall ever seeing Bob Mclanahan there. Although I do remember Bob coming out to Rog's a couple times and playing some Gordon Lightfoot songs on his accoustic. He must have joined up with them after I moved out to the Skokomish Valley in 1968. That's when I met Randy and Mike Linder. We became very close friends. I hung out at their house so much that their mom, Marie, used to call me "her other son". Mike and I frequently rode horses together. Randy used to ride to school with me in my '66 Mustang before he got his Corvair van. One day on the way to his house. I told him I used to play snare drum in grade school and Jr. High. He asked if I wanted to jam with him and Mike. I had never played on a full set before and was not very good. He asked if I knew anybody that played drums or bass. So I told him about my freinds the Lawson brothers. One drummer, one bass player. He asked if I would arrange a meeting with them. So that week-end I intoduced Rog & Ken to Randy & Mike. That's when Lynx was born. They practiced for a few weeks at the Linder house before the infamous first jam at the Hood Canal school. I still think they were the best local band from this area, ever. I was with Rog in the wee hours of the morning when he passed away. I will miss him and Mike Linder as long as I live.
