You know I've never seen/read Thinner. I really like the Shining, heck of a ghost story, I even liked the recent made for tv one they did a few years back. I must check out Thinner though. Sounds like a curse I'd like to have, for a while anyway.

Just checking in. I had to do some history reading with the 9yr old today. Columbus and Cap. John Smith. Good times!! Woo Hoo

I'm not into horror movies. I remember watching The Shinning in my room when I was little with my mom, dad and brother. Let's just say that was a bad idea!! I stopped watching anything horror like my 11th grade year and I've never looked back.

WOW! 2010!!!

DITTO.

Thinner is a good movie.  I like the actor that gets cursed.  It was well acted I thought, but it's been a while since I have seen it myself.

It's 68 here. But I'm freezing cold. I have on jeans, long sleeves and a jacket! My kids are all wrapped in blankets! Even the one outside reading.  By this afternoon it'll be fairly nice out but the temp will drop again tonight and be cold tomorrow morning. Usually, by end of Sept the fireplace is going and by mid-Oct it's on 24-7.

I have a rule in regards to Stephen King - If I read the book, I dont watch the movie and vise versa.  The movies are always a disappointment if you read the book, and the movie spoils the books too much if you try and read it afterwards.  The Stand is the ONLY movie I've made an exception for.  I read the Stand when I was in the navy and it was a real page turner...I want to read the unabridged/expanded version he did a few years later one of these days and I loved the mini series (although I did notice several missing scenes)

What I remember most about the Stand was how three of my friends tried to read it before I did and all of them got the flu (psychosomatic I think) while reading it and then did not finish.  I was the first one to tough it out (yeah I got sick too LOL) and get to the real good stuff.

JOB SEARCH - DAY 1: Got in my app for Arkansas Department of Correction and updated my resume.  Had to  call it a day early to take my wife to her doctor's appointment, but will resume the search early tomorrow morning.  Im not planning on being too long without a job - even if its not a great one.

Yee haw!

RE: Afternoon Croakers & Midnight Tokers
Posted Tuesday, September 22, 2009 06:14 AM

I read both versions of The Stand. I actually think the edited version is better. It reads better without all the superfluous stuff. King CAN go off on tangents if unrestrained. But the man can write a great story. My favorite book he wrote, bar none, is Bag of Bones. If you like ghost stories  this is the ONE. Suprised no one has made a movie from it. Probably for the best though.

Good luck on the job front. My mission at my job last winter and in the forthcoming winter is not to lay off anyone. So far we've been successful.

well good morning everybody!   Trina i wish we had your weather right about now! that sounds pleasant to me,  yours too Mark!   My day has started off bad,  went into the garage on my way out and noticed a smell?  hmmmmmmmm  as i investigated i noticed  my freezers where not running!  opened my standup and all the stuff in there except for the very bottom was defrosted!  this sucks because i still had deer sausage to eat any way got a trash can and threw it all away, went to the little freezer and good news every thing was pretty well solid threw out the top stuff but the items under had a frost layer and were solid,   I hit the surge breaker turned them on sprinkled arm and hammer all in the one and closed it up i will deal with it when i get home!  good thing its trash day!  LOL

Yeah, you couldn't have hit that better than having that bad luck on trash day.  You know every cloud, silver lining, blah blah blah.  Nothing is worse than raw meat in a hot trash can for a week.

So, Scott Baio or Charles in Charge today?  I say C n C so Trina can be one of those cuties from the show.

And Josie did grow up with tons of hotness. I like using my ingenuity in picking the right quote for the forum. Not always the most obvious one either. But you're right sometimes you just gotta go your own way.

Also something I found out in my quote search, Buddy's real name was Buddence. Who knew? I have to say I wasn't an avid CnC watcher. I think during the time this show was on I was doing the HS social butterfly thing and didn't watch very much tv.

I saw very little of it myself.  Scott B is forever linked to the name Charles though.  I think due to the catchiness of the title.  Anytime anyone mentions Baio, the C n C comes out.  Chachi or Charles, but usually Charles.

Buddence?  I have never even heard that before.

I can fish until November. The  insurance company says I have to park the boat for 3 months. I picked Nov, Jan and Feb for obvious reasons. They say it keeps my rates down. I haven't gone out since the croaker trip. There are still catfish and flounder to be had in the rivers that feed the bay. You get an odd assortment of fish there because of the brackish water. Plus the water is usually much smoother. I hope I can go a few more times before it gets cold.

I have never heard of insurance companies doing that.  Heck boat insurance is only a couple hundred a year anyway.

Maybe you'll catch abull shark in that brakish water.

What do you mean? When did we start home schooling? Or when do we start each day??

This is our 4th year to home school and the kids are doing school even as we speak.  If they plow right through it takes them about 3 hrs total.  Just depends on how focused they are. Some days are better than others.  Now it depends on how much they want to play with the dog!
