Richard, did you really just compare Pam and Billy's ordeal with the message board thing?

Ya know, I'm not easily offended but I think...um, yeah, I'm offended.

WTF?!

Please keep Pam Hill Arpin in your prayers. Billy passed today.

Jamie Gartman (1989)

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this was posted on the jacket house site earlier.

Billy Arpin lost his battle with colon cancer tonight. Most of you know Billy is married to Pam Hill and they have 3 children. Say a prayer for Billy and Pam and their family tonight.

I'm surprised at how saddened I am by this. That probably sounds stupid. I haven't seen Billy since high school and we weren't really friends then. We were friends in elementary school. We were in the 4th grade chior together and I remember when we won the Grant Co. talent show in McKenzie Hall(remember that place?), Billy is the one I high fived and hugged. In junior high, like many others, our friendship faded as our interests changed and cliques were formed. We rarely spoke to each other after that. Right before we graduated, I went to eat at a chinese restaurant in Sherwood with my girlfriend's church group. Billy had been invited too. I talked with him a lot that night and we talked about our elementary school days with the chior and all that and just caught up. I remember thinking that night how stupid we are as kids that we let such trivial things get in the way of what could be lasting friendships and relationships. Even though I didn't know him anymore, I'm very saddened by his passing. He was one of us.

Then there's Pam. One of the sweetest souls I ever knew in school. From what I've been told, she hasn't changed. Pam and I were friends in school. In fact, she was my 5th grade girlfriend. But, other than seeing her a couple of times on the UALR campus, I haven't seen or known Pam since high school. But, I know she has dealt with loss before. This girl has had more than her fair share of loss in her life and it's heartbreaking to see her go through it again. She and her children need the kind of strength right now that only God can provide so please pray for God to grant them the strength and peace that they need to endure.

Very well said Jamie. I did not know either of them well at all, but it is very sad. My heart goes out to Pam and I will keep her in my thoughts. I did not know many of you in elementary or middle school. I went to different schools and only new Gayla and Mandy from them. I became friends with some of you in High School and to some of you I was nothing but a blip on the radar screen. That is just how life is. We were kids, we ALL go through it. As we all grow older, we grow wiser. That is why I am glad that both sites were created and we have the message forum. We can get on here and talk about the "old days" or we can create new friendships. That's why I am excited for the reunion coming up, I think it will be alot different from the 10 year reunion. Oh sure we will start back into our little circle of friends, however due to the conversations that we have ALL had on here, I think people will be more comfortable with each other to open up to new circles of friends. Is it just me that feels that way or do any of you agree?

11/08/08 02:26 PM #244

Melody Gartman (Lucas) (1989)

Missy, I agree with you! i had a few classes with Bill in grade school days. I played in band with him as well. Bill always had the trumpet solo's and was very good at it! We all grow and become wiser. I have a lot of regrets as I am sure everyone on this site does. We over come just to jump the next hurdel. It saddens me that I lost contact with everyone. I had even lost contact with Jamie. Jamie and I were like brother and sister growing up. I miss those days! I wish I could go back and enjoy it more. I am always open to new friendship! I love life and I love to live it. It saddens me for Pam to know that she lost her partner in life. We need to pray and hope she finds strength in God.You are in my prayers Pam! You are an inspiration to us all!

Bill and I were best friends growing up. We were in cub scouts together. We spent as much time at each other's houses as we did our own. I spent summers in his pool. As we grew older, we competed with each other for those solos Mel remembers in band. We went with the guys from the choir to compete at the state fair talent contest.
All those years, people would ask us, "Are you guys brothers?" We would laugh and say, "Nope."

We were wrong. Bill meant as much to me as any brother can. I pray for Bill's family in this time of loss.

Here's a little riddle!!

Who am I ?

I was raised in one country but my father was born in another. I was
not his only child. He fathered several children with a number of
women.

I became very close to my mother because my father showed little
interest in me. Then my mother died at an early age from cancer. Later
in life, questions arose over my real name. My birth records were
sketchy and no one was able to produce a reliable birth certificate.

I grow up practicing one faith, but converted to Christianity because
this was widely accepted in my country. But I practiced non-traditional
beliefs and did not follow mainstream Christianity.

I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult before I
decided it was time to get serious about my life and I embarked on a new
career.

I wrote a book about my struggles growing up. It was clear to those who
read my memoirs that I had difficulties accepting that my father
abandoned me as a child.

I became active in local politics when I was in my 30s and then burst
onto the scene as a candidate for national office when I was in my 40s.
I had a virtually non-existent resume, very little work history, and no
experience in leading a single organization. Yet I was a powerful
speaker who managed to draw incredibly large crowds during my public
appearances.

At first, my political campaign focused on my country's foreign policy.
I was critical of my country in the last war. But what launched my rise
to national prominence were my views on the country's economy. I had a
plan on how we could do better. I knew which group was responsible for
getting us into this mess.

Mine was a people's campaign. I was the surprise candidate because I
emerged from outside the traditional path of politics and was able to
gain widespread popular support. I offered the people the hope that
together we could change our country and the world.

I spoke on behalf of the downtrodden including persecuted minorities
such as Jews, but my actual views were not widely known until after I
became my nation's leader. However, anyone could have easily learned
what I really believed if they had simply read my writings and examined
those people I associated with. But they did not.

Then I became the most powerful man in the world, and the world learned
the truth.

Who am I?

Thanks Melody, I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way! LOL!
