As submitted to the 10-year reunion book by her brother...
Maria De La Paz Villegas
(Meaning Maria of the peace in Spanish)
January 24, 1981 – May 6, 2002
Maria was born in Eagle Pass, Texas. She was a graduate of Sidney Senior High School class of 2001. She loved to ride around with friends and live life to the fullest.
She was an employee of the Sidney Health Center as a CAN. In her spare time she loved to volunteer at the retirement home as she felt fulfilment in helping those that cannot help themselves. When pay day came around she did not allow her parents to refuse to take a few hundred dollars as it was something she loved to do.
When she found out early in 2002 that she had ovarian cancer she was devastated to know she would never have kids. Even when she was eventually told she was terminally ill, she never stopped volunteering at the retirement home. Her heart knew no boundaries and she showed it until the last minute. May 6th, 2002 she finally lost her battle with ovarian cancer. By her personal request a day before her death, she asked to be buried in Piedras Negras Cemetery in Mexico to be closer to family. https://www.sidneyherald.com/obituaries/maria-de-la-paz-villegas/article_1b89328c-a532-5584-aac4-f21bf5b3b081.html
