SIDNEY - The community was saddened last week by the death of young businessman William H. Kent, III. "Billy," 30, died Wednesday, December 26 at the Sloane-Kettering Hospitakl, New York City, following an extended ittness.
During the many months he was intermittently hospitalized members of the community frequently expressed concern for the courageous and well-liked young man.
Billy was born July 24, 1949 in Sidney, the son of William H. and Louise (Howard) Kent Jr.
He was employed with his father at W.H. Kent Inc., Ben Franklin Store, in Sidney. He was a graduate of the Sidney Senior High School and from Ithaca College in 1971 with a B.S. in Education.
He was a member of the Sidney United Methodist Church, the Sidney Rotary Club, the Sidney Chamber of Commerce and the Sidney Golf and Country Club.
He is survived by his parents; one brother, Gary W. Kent, Mount Upton; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Howard (Katie) Lawyer of Ashland; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2 pm at the Sidney United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dwight E. Giles, pastor, officiating. Burial wiill be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements were by the C.H. Landers Chapel in Sidney.
Memorial gifts may be made in Bill's memory to the Sidney Untied Methodist Church.
Many of the Sidney businesses closed Saturday afternoon between 2 pm and 3 pm in memory of Bill who in the past had been an active member of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce.
