Donald L. Stanley

SIDNEY _ Donald L. Stanley of Sidney, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, after a brief illness.

Don was born on April 9, 1949, at the Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, the son of William F. Stanley and Gladys V. Stanley. He was predeceased by his father, Bill in November of 1980.

He is survived by his mother, Gladys of Sidney; his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Susan Stanley of Leominster, Mass., their children, Matthew and his fiancee, Andrea of Marlborough, N.H., Andrew of Ashburnham, Mass., and Caitlin of East Boston, Mass.; his aunt, Stella Borek of Utica, aunt, Alene Barron of Clinton; several cousins; his son, Eric Stanley; his ex-wife, Janet; and his stepchildren, Lona, Julie and Raymond.

Don graduated from Sidney High School in 1967, and subsequently attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy. He worked as a programmer and database administrator at Bendix/Amphenol in Sidney for several years, as well as at several contract positions in New York and Pennsylvania.

He loved music and enjoyed playing the piano, as well as singing and performing. For the last several years, Don was a member of the Binghamton University Chorus, Binghamton Downtown Singers and the Tri-Town Theater. Donald will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., in Sidney. A brief memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. prior to calling hours with Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, officiating. Interment will be private at the Prospect Hill Cemetery at a later date.
