Cynthia's Story
MOUNT VISION – Cynthia Louise (Whitaker) Newell went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at St. Peters Hospice Inn, Albany. Cynthia was born May 9, 1949, daughter of the late Glen Whitaker Sr. and Mildred (Robbins) Whitaker Lentz in Sidney. She attended Sidney schools and graduated from St. Agnes in Albany. She also graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in NYC. She was married to Roger Newell in Cooperstown. They had one son. She lived in the Cooperstown area for the last 27 years. She worked for Bassett Hospital until her retirement in 2013 as an ICU Unit Clerk. Previously she lived and worked in Alaska, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Texas. In her youth she enjoyed many happy summers at Camp Otsego, in Cooperstown. She is survived by her son, Lt. Col. Mathew Newell and wife, Tiffany; grandsons, Brody Newell (6) and Rowan Newell (3) of Whiteman AFB, Missouri; sister, Candis Arthur and her husband, Lindsey; brother, Whit Whitaker and his wife, Rosemary; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. Cindy will be missed by her extended family and good friends, especially by Keith Emery, Kris Chase and her beloved cat, Bubba Sue. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 28, in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney. Pastor Stephen Reese will officiate.
