This tribute is from Dave's friend, Don Selvy:
Dave attended the U.S. Naval Academy - graduating in 1985. He selected Marine Corps aviation and completed his flight training in 1986. During a routine training mission in Korea on March 20, 1989, his CH-53E crashed, killing all of the crew onboard.
Dave was loved by everyone that knew him. While at Buena he was a stand-out cross-country runner and a good friend to many people on the site. At the Naval Academy, he was a leader with an easy-going style and a quick wit. In the Marine Corps, he was a hard worker, an excellent pilot and a good friend to everyone in the squadron.
He is mourned by his friends, his comrades in arms and a grateful nation.

Dave Pimple and I were great friends growing up. We played basketball together, went to the bluffs together, and drove my chevette through the back roads of 7th street. When I moved to Washington, DC in 1985, Dave came to my parents house and had dinner with us. It was the last time we spoke. I remember it as clear as yesterday as he showed up at my parents house in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He talked about his military service and how much he enjoyed the DC area. He was a great person and a hero.

The picture below was from Dave's First Class (Senior) Year at the U.S. Naval Academy. It was forwarded by his father (Leo Pimple) who said, "Thank you very much for including Dave in your 30th High School Reunion."

Dave rode the bus with me out of Ramsey Canyon to Buena. We would often sit together. We made "small talk" and he was always so nice and respectful to me. God bless Dave's soul for serving our Country, and allowing us to be a free America. God Bless Dave's family and close friends. He was a good boy as I knew him, and I'm sure the best man anyone could be.
