I have such happy, smiling, giggling memories with Gene, starting in Kindergarten at PineCrest Elem. Best Gene memory - My husband and I were car shopping, walking through the showroom with "our sales guy" when Gene exited his office, and walked toward us. He & I had a "wow" hug, husband, sales guy, manager all staring. (Gene was multiple inches shorter than I.) "What's going on?" was the major question. "We used to be engaged," Gene reported. I gazed down at him lovingly, and said, "Yeah..." Multiple mouths agape!! "No, really!!!?" "Yes," I reiterated, "we were engaged." Then Gene and I looked into each others eyes, and, in stereo said, "In Kindergarten." (which was true!!)
Thanks for the memories, Gene, including fab dancing at the 20th Reunion!! (Another story)
Little Patti Cissel (as I was known in Kindergarten!)

If you never had the pleasure of hanging out with Gene Amanuel, well, you're just gonna have to come back and do this all over again, because you missed something! Funny, crazy, goofy…and that's just when we were playing golf at Indian Spring Country Club. Playing golf with Gene was so much more than exercise or sport…it was Saturday Night Live on the first tee. Steve, Henry, Bobby, Mike and I (most of the 1970 NHS golf team) got together a couple of years ago for a few drinks…we toasted Gene, but it would have been so much better if he had been there with us. Gene was a great guy! Should'a married Lois!

I don't recall the particulars surrounding Gene's passing, but I do remember that it was quite some time ago and I believe it was his heart that gave out. At the time, it was quite shocking because he was so young. Gene was a sweetheart of a guy and I have fond memories of following him, and Bobby Brendler NHS '69, around the golf courses at Sligo Creek and Indian Springs a couple of times. I remember going over Gene's house after school one day and his mom was so thrilled he brought a girl home, I think she was pressing him to go out with me, which I certainly would have done...but he never asked. We were just good friends. He also couldn't understand why I would want one of his school pictures...but he gave me one anyhow. I can still see him in his golf jacket! He was always dressed to go out on the course! A fun and funny guy, that should have grown old with all of us.

Gene Amanuel was a nice guy. I liked him.  He did not make fun of me because I spoke with an accent.  It has been so many years since you left.  Nor forgotten though!!  Rest in peace dear friend.
