While Ruth and I did not really know each other in high school, she was with the smart kids and I was just trying to graduate :), we did share a common business interest some 25 years later. Ruth was a pioneer in developing the technology behind the digital imaging of your x-rays, CT scans, and other medical imaging modalities while working at the Veterans Administration. She was instrumental in developing what was known as the DICOM standard - used to insure that all medical imaging data was interpetted, stored and transmitted based on that standard. (Here is a link to her Wikipedia page) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_Dayhoff.

In the latter part of my career as a software engineer, I worked in many hospitals implementing medical imaging systems. The last years of my career I went to work for the Veterens Administrations working on their VistA Imaging system that Ruth had developed. During the 40th Reunion, we were able to spend some time talking about our shared interest of medical digital imaging and working for the VA.

So, the next time you are in a doctor's office and they are looking at image of an x-ray or CT scan being displayed on a computer monitor, think of Ruth! Her contributions are used around the world every day.

Dear Ruth,

I looked at your photo in the 1969 NHS Yearbook. I seem to remember you, not sure we ever knew each other. Condolences to your family for your passing. I noticed you will be buried at the historic St. John the Evangelist Cemetery. I have been a EEM there for years. Father Calis, etc etc. I wonder if we knew each other. Cannot attend your funerals. Rest in Peace. Tony Magri.
