It is with great sadness that the Reunion Committee reports the death of its Chairman, George Kozar, on April 16. George battled ill health for several years and was not feeling well this spring. His wife, Marcy, has asked us to thank the Blair Community for its loyalty and friendship, which meant the world to George always.
George was an extraordinarily kind, compassionate, loyal, and generous man. When his dear friend and the original catalyst for this year’s reunion, Ginny Foley Morris, invited him to chair this year’s reunion, he quickly agreed to do so. As Ginny knew would be the case, George was an outstanding Reunion Chair. He was a charismatic leader who set a gracious tone for our working together, called it as he saw it, made decisions when they were called for, and encouraged his co-workers to do their best in carrying out our common goal of creating the best reunion ever for the Class of 1965. His enthusiasm about the event and his classmates was contagious, and its strength will carry us through the process of making his and Ginny’s dream a reality.
A traditional Ukrainian Orthodox Panahyda (Memorial Service and Prayers for the Departed) will be held from 3:00 – 3:30 p.m.,on Wednesday April 22, at Pumphrey Funeral Home in Bethesda, MD, followed by visitation until 5:00 p.m. and again between 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 15100 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, with burial.to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral.
Expressions of sympathy can be sent to George’s wife, Marcy Kozar, at 11703 Roberts Glen Court, Potomac, MD 20854-2100.
