I knew Mike fairly well, as we had several classes together. At that age, he seemed destined to become a physicist, like his father, or some other sort of scientist. He had a sharp sense of humor, which he appeared to use to distance himself from the foibles of this world. In our senior year, we would see each other quite a bit at a cafe that was set up in a church, as a sort of folk center. I last saw Mike during a demonstration against the war, in downtown Washington. It was about a year after graduation. He was living in Hawaii at the time. We just happened to run into each other at the demonstration, and had a wonderful conversation -- connecting immediately, talking about things that seemed to matter, and laughing together. He made very pithy observations about the world, and possessed an excellent mind. Every moment knowing Mike was well worth it.
