Orval L. "Pete" Dye, 59, of Schofield, Wis., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Wausau Community Hospital in Wausau, Wis.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dr. Allen D. Call of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. There will be a memorial service at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Peterson-Kraemer Funeral Home in Wausau. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday.

Mr. Dye was born Oct. 11, 1942, in Sioux City, the son of Orval O. and Constance M. (Erickson) Dye. He graduated from East High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His awards and decorations include three Purple Heart Medals, two Bronze Star Medals and the Army Commendation Medal for heroism.

He was married to Linda K. Kobernus from June 13, 1970, to 1985.

Upon his discharge from the military, he became employed with Sioux Tools in Sioux City, remaining there until 1988. He then moved to Wausau, where he was employed with Marathon Electric. In 1997, he became a self-employed craftsman and also worked at Sears.

He was an avid woodworker. He enjoyed golf, bowling and playing pool. He was a Little League umpire for several years. He also was an active volunteer with Junior Achievement.

Survivors include a son, Travis J. Dye and his special friend, Angie Bohle of Sioux City; two daughters, Mindy Dye of Rockford, Ill., and Kortney Dye and her special friend, Chris Brunsvold of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his parents, Orval and Connie Dye of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, John and Mary Dye of Sioux City; and a sister, Susan Castellano of Oceanside, Calif.

Pallbearers will be Brian Dye, Ted, Lee and Rusty Schroeder, Bob Leinert and Jeff Welch.
