John G. Rickwa, 55, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died of cancer Saturday, July 11, 1998, in Omaha.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Martha Anderson, of Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church, officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Rickwa was born Sept. 26, 1942, in Sioux City, the son of Tony F. and Joyce L. (Rowley) Rickwa. He graduated from East High School in 1961.

He entered the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam aboard the USS Midway, retiring in 1981. His awards and decorations include National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Battle "E" Award, Navy Expeditionary Medal, three Good Conduct Awards, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with the FMF device, Navy Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Civil Actions, Meritorious Unit Commendation and Presidential Unit Citation.

He returned to San Diego, Calif., and was employed at the Veterans Hospital. He later moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., and worked at the Veterans Hospital and then the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, retiring in 1995.

Survivors include his parents of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Stella and Gary Switzer and JoAnn and Mike Wilcox, all of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
