Hey all -
Brad this site is neat. I also thank you for setting it up. It looks like you have the ball rolling pretty well. I should be back in S.C. Dec 4th, I will stop by if I get in on time. Should we invite Officer Jackson? It wouldn't be a real party without him there :) See you all soon. By the way my vote is Rosies, home run.

Brad Carl

Officer Jackson - that's hilarious, Chad! Who DIDN'T have that guy knock on their parent's door at least once in high school?

Paul McEntaffer

Umm, Me........But you have to remember, my Dad was his Boss!

11/22/08 08:08 AM #68

Brad Carl

Yeah, so you had your dad interrogating you instead of Jackson. Who would be easier to lie to?

Hey Brad, i took some fun pictures last night when a bunch of classmates got together and thought it would be fun to post them here. I need instructions from our favorite computer whiz...

I am definitely in favor of keeping the gathering as personal as possible. Is Rosie's the place with all of the aviator paraphernalia? I'm trying to picture, so I feel in-the-know.
We are trying to work in RAGBRAI in the same trip. I wonder where it will start.
This is very exciting, People.
However, I fear the heat and humidity. As Kristi Brygger told me recently, I am a weather wimp...or something like that. We barely hit 70 this past summer, and we had a ton of rain. I think there were three days in July we had freezing weather, which is unprecedented.

12/08/08 10:32 PM #71

Brian Lester

How can anyone who lives in Alaska be a weather wimp? Looking at the calendar it looks like RAGBRAI will be the 19th thru the 25th of July.

Anybody know about something going on the 20th?

12/14/08 08:50 PM #73

Grant Thompson

Curt, ya need to come to the next reunion meeting and pass along your thoughts on how to do this shin-dig! January 8th @ 6pm.....at a place to be determined. Mr. Machan is supposed to create ANOTHER survey, to determine where to have this gathering. Places like:

A. Bob Roes
B. Rosies
C. Darin's House
D. Jim's
E. B.A.'s
F. All of the above

Anyone else....the more the merrier!

Hey what's Up!

I suppose you are all wondering what's going on with the
reunion in July? Here's the 6 month update and some numbers and observations--

Brad Carl has put a lot of time and effort into this site
Thanks Brad..for all your hard work and input. The 20 year reunion planning is at a stage where it could easily crumble and I am sure nobody wants to disappoint brad and all his efforts re-connecting everyone together. So that's what we need to do --come together and offer feedback and an opinion to sway a majority. It's your party, please provide feedback..I am sure everyone would love to get together and have a good time..so here's what's going on, welcome to the planning committe by the way..

local turnout very scarce, conflicting schedules and can't generate interest-average about 4-5 people,(good times though)

great ideas all the way around, input locally and through emails includes: all ends of the spectrum --buffet meal and change of venue between nights to more of appetizers "laid back" atmosphere come and go not so private

Go back through the idea posts and read 10/16 and 10/17 (christy R and Grant T).

plan A -- 4th street friday night w/possible pub bus crawl, picnic,/softball/ riverside pool ($3.75pp on your own option)/ golf ($35 on your own, will provide gc info ) stoney creek inn, banquet room with patio, dinner through grant's contact (buffet with apps) cash bar, DJ for 38 year olds to dance to music.possiblity of Wee's, guitar hero and pool table brought.. estimated guest turnout at 300 people at $25.00/head

Plan A --saturday night atmosphere--summer wedding reception with buffet, mingling in a private setting through out the evening with a DJ to provide music for you all to dance too, hotel room on site,

that's what's on the table right now-

Two of us are presenting Plan B tommorrow @ 6pm Mcbehr's-

plan B --4th street friday night,w/opt for seperate $15 bus pub crawl (includes tye dye shirt, mug and possible mardi gras beads ) Mug will be used for drink specials by 4th street establishmets all weekend if we can get it worked out (except sunday) both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. same saturday afternoon activites/ sat night back on 4th street/ possible option for ba's pizza in outdoor garden/ possible option for REBOS buffet or bar apps at 4th street bar and grill (old brewery) pool, darts, shuffelboard (pay for these) dance floor, ATM inside/ lighted outdoor patio/ private for us until 10:30pm then open to public/ estimated guest turnout 100 total @ $25.00/head-- saturday night atmosphere back to back bar night mingling in a private then public setting.

I can have fun at either of these events, Not a problem by me that's just how I roll and some of you will wonder who in the hell is that guy?? but we need feedback from the class as to the pros and cons of each event. If you are coming to the event from out of town or are coming to the event in town-- what do you want to do?

numbers-- 160 people registered on the site, 40 people responded to the picnic poll on the web site and 40 people responded to the golf poll on the web site. My opinion.. I don't believe that 300 guests is a realistic number to expect for the reunion. I do believe that 100 guests is a realistic number to expect for the reunion. (The class of 1988 had a little over 100 guests when I emailed their co-ordinator to get a feel for the turnout last year)

In a down economy, middle of summer, 6 months till kick off..to me there is a big difference to budget for $7500 versus $2500 but that's not for me to decide as it is your class party.

hey what's up--

After last night's meeting...we have a plan rolling and details will be posted on the web site in the very near future. Keep spreading the word to classmates to sign up on the website and check every so often for updated details..See you in July!

Update: sorry I mis-informed the group

After I thought a decision was made after the last meeting,(plan B--email above) apparently this decision has opposition from the locals that have not attended meetings, FACEBOOK, MY SPACE and anywhere else these small groups pop up from our class

I am so glad as this has sparked more interest to participate..more locals are brain storming on more ideas to present as to what to do for the 20th reunion.

I still think Vegas could be a possible option along with the other plans..

I don't think I would describe the Facebook group as "small" The SC East Class of 89 group that was created by Aaron Lukken is at least 70 people, almost all of whom plan on attending the event. If you include guests and spouses from that group alone we are talking over 100 people. That doesn't include the people who aren't on there. There is a a real buzz about this event on Facebook. Mock it all you want, but it's real.

We were able to get 12 people together on 4 hours notice last night. If we schedule these meetings on Sunday evenings when our kids aren't involved with activities, I would bet there would be more local response. I know that every meeting we have had to this point, I have either had a concert, contest or pep band that evening. I am more than willing to get involved, it just hasn't worked out that way.

Before we start with the sarcasm, we should examine as many opinions as we can, regardless of the source.....

"In a down economy, middle of summer, 6 months till kick off..to me there is a big difference to budget for $7500 versus $2500 but that's not for me to decide as it is your class party." Your words....and then to suggest that Vegas is an option. Really?

01/26/09 02:00 PM #82

Brad Carl

Obviously, there are ways to work with a budget and plan for a possible worse case scenario if a minimum amount of people showing up is a concern. I'm pretty sure the reunion committee is heading in the right direction with the best possible plan to please the majority of our class.

Darin, you're more than welcome to go to Vegas on July 24th if you'd like to. In the meantime, sign up on Facebook and get in on the action. It's free and you don't have to get a babysitter for the entire weekend. ;)

01/26/09 02:30 PM #83

Brenna Layhee (Rosenquist)

Hey classmates,
I attended the meeting last night and I am here to tell you that many of us locals feel very responsible for making our 20 year reunion as fun and enjoyable as possible. Mark your calanders, bring your kids, and know that this newly formed committee along with past group are exploding with ideas that will make you all walk away from that hot weekend in July with a smile on your face and sore stomach muscles from laughter. (Hopefully many of you will walk away with much deserved awards for the fun and crazy things you have been trying to forget for 20 years.) Now make your plans, get your travel arrangements, call your old friends and re-hash old stories, whatever you have to do to get here, just do it! you will not regret it, I promise you! Have a happy, healthy 5 months See you in July! Brenna

BLACKJACK 21 YEAR MINI-REUNION - IN LAS VEGAS !!!!

August 2010

Headed by Mr. Darin Machan

We'll start throwing around the idea to others, at the upcoming reunion.

Obviously too soon to confirm, but I'm intrigued by the possibility and can't imagine anything but a GOOD TIME, partying with YOU, on the strip!!! :)

I have apparently been living in a cave since I just found out about this reunion yesterday! I was on the amazing 10 year committee and never missed a meeting! We had a blast every single wed. nite for a year! Yes I said a year! I believe all had fun at the 10 year and, if I am not mistaken we were begged by many to throw a 15 year! The time and effort was definately worth it. The only conflict was which bar were we headin to after Bob Roe's! I did attend last nights meeting with only 2 hours notice and found this committe to be excited and am looking forward to many more meetings. Sunday evenings do tend to be less activity packed so that works fine for me as well. The rest of you locals need to come on out and bring your ideas! I made some calls and emailed on the AMAZING SITE-thank you again Brad Carl!! You are the bomb diggity squared!I even registered on face book, which is a miracle in itself! Especially since I was not sure I registered due to error messages but Brad says I am on there. Yeah, now I just have to find you people! I did also track down a few lost classmates. I may be late to the game, but I will definately do as much as possible to help out for the reunion cause! I am determined to have as much as if not MORE fun than I did at the 10 year and I know all who attend will not be disappointed. By the way I am lookin for a golfing group,I suck since I probably haven't golfed since the last reunion, oh yeah and don't let me drive the cart because the only thing worse than my golf game will be my driving skills!

hey what's up

I appologize for any animosity that I have caused. I am not trying to mock any of those EHS groups on the internet (facebook, myspace). I am not on these social networks and don't know much about it; just hear tid bits here and there. The Cap letters was not meant for emotion, I thought you spelled those networks in all caps. I learn some thing new everyday. I am glad the word is spreading and excited many people are in a "buzz" about the plans.

About the las Vegas idea -- to clear the air--
The reason I mentioned Las Vegas was a few classmates had conversed with me on the cost of airfare for a family was going to cost $2,000 bucks to get to sioux city but he and she could fly to vegas as a couple cheaper than it would be to come to sioux city. This was the reason I had mentioned Las Vegas nothing more..and nothing less.

My sincere apologies for those that I may have offended.

I am really looking forward to seeing all of you again. Thanks to all who have contributed to the planning. I will do what I can from KC.

Shari Davis (Beeson)

I agree with Jill. Thank you all in Sioux City for the long hours you have already put in and the many more you will be putting in. It is hard to try and plan something that everyone will like and have fun at. Please know that I will do whatever I can from KC as well.

This website is awesome! I've already contacted some other out of towners and told them to sign up. When is the next planning meeting? I'm only 2 hours away in Brookings, SD and may be able to attend. I helped with the 10 year and had a great time so I'd love to do it again.

If you haven't already joined facebook, I would highly recommend it. It's a great way to stay in touch with classmates. I was amazed at how many people from our class are on there!

Looking forward to seeing everyone in July. Thanks for all the hard work so far.
