Chuck Mounts

Charles L. "Chuck" Mounts, 70, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a sudden illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with Carol Wassmuth officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Mounts was born Feb. 18, 1934, in Gallipolis, Ohio, the son of Herman and Mabel (Bunn) Mounts. He graduated from Ironton (Ohio) High School in 1951. He then served for four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Morningside College in 1959 and received his masters degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

He married Nancy Wineinger on Aug. 23, 1958, in Sioux City. He taught and coached at Whiting (Iowa) High School, Leeds High School, Leeds Junior High School and from 1973 to 1992, at North High School. After his retirement, he was active in Siouxland athletics and the Sioux City Relays.

He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a lifelong member of the National Education Association. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling. He was an organ donor.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Sioux City; three sons and their wives, Dennis and Cindy Wilson of Sioux City, Jeff and Jinda Mounts of Charleston, S.C., and Mike and Kim Mounts of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Clarence "Bud" and Naomi Mounts of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Joann Legg of Ironton, Ohio, Linda and her husband, Bill McClellan of Ironton, Ohio, and Karen Childers of Plant City, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Chris and Michael Wilson, Melissa and Wyatt Mounts and Megan, Wara and Jukit Mounts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Herman Mounts Jr.
