David C. Murphy

David Clarence Murphy, 36, of Worcester, Mass., formerly of Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 8, 2006, at his residence from a heart attack.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dr. Floyd E. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery.

David was born Feb. 13, 1970, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Bramlett and Jayne (Bates) Murphy. He moved with his family to Sioux City in July 1977. He attended Bryant Elementary School and North High School. He attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry. Subsequent to graduation, he pursued further studies including attending the University of Iowa College of Medicine. At the time of his death, he was working as a laboratory technologist at Herrington Hospital in Worcester.

David was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, tennis player and golfer. He enjoyed stimulating and thought provoking discussions, always willing to look at things in different ways.

He is survived by his daughter, Lauren Raquel Moore-Murphy of Iowa City, Iowa; his father and stepmother, Dr. Bramlett Murphy and Mrs. Faye (Wells) Murphy of Oxford, Miss..; a sister, Dr. Shannan Murphy of Phoenix, Ariz.; three stepsisters, Andrea, Lindsey and Tracy Wells; several aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

David mourned the loss of his older brother, Derek, and his mother, who both preceded him in death in 1982.

Pallbearers will be Edward Van Bramer, David Lucke, William Blankenship, Joseph Hegenbart, Mark Carlson, George Madsen, Ellis C. Bates III and Scott Murphy.
