Food for Thought

Yesterday I over heard a putz...alias goof-ball rattling on about racism and the lack of it for like 40 years!?!? He really sorta made me mad. I remember in junior high school playing South Sioux City in football and getting tackled into their bench. One of the coaches walked up pushing his foot and shin into my side and calling me an N lover. I was shocked that an adult in a position of power would do that, especially in front of kids! Later, at West High school we played a Sioux Falls team and Marty Smith took a pass away from one of their receivers in the end zone and out the N word came right in front of the referee...Marty popped the guy after nothing was done and the benches cleared. We had players ejected. All that shit happened less than 40 years ago...not by much now that we are getting older. I've always looked at someone as if they are cool or an ass...color doesn't come into play. At West we seemed to all respect each other and get along...and if someone messed with one of us they messed with us all. I think we were lucky to be so diverse...I know I was for my friendships with the West High class of 79! Shit, real racists really would get pumped if they knew...in track for state my bed partner was Damon Daniels and I thought nothing of it...he probably did because I snore...poor Damon, God Bless him! We were a great class that showed great class...and we stuck by our friends...I still would!

Peace and love to all West High 79's!!!

Matt i'm very proud of you that you would come out of the closet after all these years I know it must have been hard holding that in all these years.  I hope you discussed this with Damon though as these thing can be tough on families.  Good for you my freind.

I wish Damon was around to reply...he was such a nice guy that I can't remember him having a bad thing to say about anyone...just one fast running guy in track! Those cheep asses made us sleep two to a bed at state track...hell, I think I could have got Buddy Mayo or Brad Patton as bed partners at state track instead...Yikes!!!! Actually, I always liked everyone I met in our hallways, at least in our grade...and would have stuck-up for them as a family member...because family you all are! And I do love you guys giving me shit...life should be fun!
