SIOUX CITY -- Jane Laurie Toft, 49, of Salix Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died and was found near Sloan, Iowa, on January 5, 2010, having lost a battle with extreme winter conditions.

Private graveside services will be held Friday in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. A celebration of life will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Crosstown Cafe, 714 South Lewis Blvd. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Lovingly raised by Don and Arla Hatt, Jane graduated with the North High School class of 1979, before making her way to California. There, Jane married and gave birth to her only child, Christina Mae Henderson. A master of many trades, her resume included such professions as tending bar, marketing, construction and driving truck, just to name a few. In March 2006, her father fell ill, so she packed up and moved back to Iowa. Sadly after three months, her father passed, but she remained and rediscovered her Iowa roots.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Christina who resides in Alameda, Calif.; her brother, Jon Hatt; her nephews, Daniel Hatt and his wife, Kayla of Columbus, Ohio, and Gregory Hatt of Evanston, Ill. She is also survived by her birth mother, Jackie Bazor of Beaver Dam, Ariz., with whom she had recently happily reunited; and her loving pets, Gato, Scooter, DC and Samson.

Flowers or memorial contributions to the Siouxland Humane Society may be sent to the Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Jane was class of '79 at North and was indeed at the reunion.  Those of you who went to Lincoln Elementary or Hoover Jr. would know her of course.  Jane lived life large, and the "celebration of life" at the Crosstown was exactly what Jane would have wanted (instead of some somber affair).
