KEG AT THE DUNES, MORNING FROM HELL

...as I recall, the last major keg at the Dunes was the night before our first full-contact day in pads...brilliant idea...I remember riding there with Larry LaDeaux (where are ya, Larry???)...his tires had sunken down into the sand...although I pleaded with him to stop (actually, I begged), he kept flooring the accelerator...by the time he gave up, there were no tires to be seen...I remember we started hoofin' it around 4:00 a.m., and miraculously scored a ride from some dude in a pickup...it was around 5:00 (and already ninety degrees) when I trudged through my front door..I was immediately greeted by my good ol' mom, who informed me I was not only GOING to practice, I was W-A-L-K-I-N-G...when you look up "dehydration" in the dictionary, there's my picture...you just can't see me cuz I've melted...........

Did  coach Keilman (spell) jump your ass? I can still hear his voice saying, "Thompson, what the hell were you thinking?!?" "Get up there and hit Cunningham...Max, I am going to call you NJ...no jets, ha, ha, ha!" 'Smith, your an NJ too!" "Don't smile at me!" He did this while pulling on his baseball cap and laughing! Brad Patton did an excellent Keilman...I remember coach Keilman walking up the steps from the practice field and Brad's commentary, "One, two, three...ok...one two three...one, two, three, four...ok one, two, three." It was really funny...I guess you had to be there!

When I think of Coach Keilman, I think of him saying one name (the way he would say it):

"Shin-COO-nis!"

For some reason, I remember him yelling at the Shinkunis (spelling?) kid a lot.  Though I think of how he'd ride us, I liked him as a coach.  Coach Keilman was a fan of polyester shirts...he had one disco looking shirt he'd wear to class that we'd give him a hard time about.  Man the crap we wore back then!

Matt,

he caught me doing "him" x 2.  He really didn't care for me.  I recalled him calling me a "sunken eyed, big nose, drug addict.

OK, three of of three ain't bad.

Mark, I loved the dunes, amazing times with palls out there.
