Lance Cpl. Jeffrey A. Borchers, USMC

Lance Cpl. Jeffrey A. Borchers, 21, of Pearl Harbor Navel Base, Honolulu, Hawaii, was shot and killed while on sentry duty on Monday, March 12, 1990.

Services were held on Monday morning, March 19, 1990, at the South Sioux City Assembly of God Church, the Reverend Ward J. Astin officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military rites, under the direction of the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Cpl. Borchers was born December 22, 1968 in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended West High School where he participated in baseball and wrestling, graduating in 1987. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps on April 18, 1988, took basic training in san Diego, California, and was stationed in North Carolina and then at Pearl Harbor in September of 1988, where he was a security guard for special projects.

Survivors include his parents, Gregory and Jan Borchers of Sioux City; a brother, Brian at home; two sisters, Monica and Kimberly, both of Sioux City, paternal grandmother, Marcella (Mrs. William) Beckman of Cape Coral, Florida; and maternal grandparents Fred and Leilia Carlson of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Chad, who died of Leukemia at age 3 in 1979, and paternal grandfather, Harvey Borchers.

Pallbearers were Officer in Charge Capt. Martin, Staff Sgt. Crawford, Staff Sgt. Okinga, Sgt. Vanderberg, Sgt. Burris and Cpl Ackerman, all of the U., S. Marine Corps.
