Following high school Elmer served in the Navy aboard the USS Wilkinson and deployed to the South Pacific during the Laotian Crises.  He married Mary Beth Baldwin on Feb 27, 1965.  Elmer was employed at American Freight and Good Samaritan and enjoyed woodworking and pleasant hunting.

He shared his life with his wife, 2 sons, 1 daughter,  5 grandchildren, 2 sisters and 1 brother.  He will be missed.
