According to Ronald Reagan's own diary entry, which was published years later in Vanity Fair, the White House committed a tea-related offense in 1981:  
*Fri May 1 •* Highlight was noon visit by Prince Charles. He's a most likeable person. The ushers brought him tea -- they served it our way with a tea bag in the cup. It finally dawned on me that he was just holding the cup & then finally put it down on a table. Mike [Deaver, deputy chief of staff] apologized. The Prince said, "I didn't know what to do with it."

In 1985 at an evening reception during a return trip to the White House with Princess Diana, Nancy Reagan orchestrated the iconic Travolta dance for a photo op. The First Lady had a message delivered to John Travolta that it was the princess' fantasy to dance with him.

During an unspecified visit to the U.S. a fellow guest (an American) said, "Hi Prince!"      
The Private Secretary informed future hosts that short of his full title, the Prince preferred to be called "Charles".

To be sure, Meghan and Harry airing their grievances with Charles and the rest of the royal clan would have been explosive in any venue. Who better than Oprah to stir the royal tea and coax Harry to spill it? She served up an iconic interview to strain the Monarchy's "special relationship" with the United States.

Charles served as Prince of Wales for decades; Brits are confident he is well prepared to serve as King.  
King Charles III extended an olive branch to Harry and Meghan. Let us step back.

The sun is shining and flooding continues to threaten Floridians.  
Hurricane Ian has left staggering destruction in Florida and has not yet made landfall in South Carolina.    
President Biden remains focused on the ravages of Hurricane Ian in Puerto Rico and Florida, and as it strengthens, taking aim at South Carolina.

Ian is a whole new kind of hurricane, a force of nature.

October is a spooky month in America; pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns are everywhere.
Pumpkins are so popular that October 26 is National Pumpkin Day.      
Today and for the next two days, Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh is sponsoring
                SMASH AWAY CANCER
Past and present cancer patients and their family members are invited to smash a pumpkin in the healing garden at the hospital. Participants can write the name of a particular cancer on a pumpkin and SMASH it.

Hope, strength, and love are important in the fight against cancer.      
Sometimes strength takes on a different look than we expect. It's OK to not be OK.    
Cancer should not rob us of joy.

Okay, Janis,you asked for it!  My season ended today  with a tournament in Tucson. Unfortunately I was only able to finish sixth among the field of 65+ year-olds. Had a good first day, but the second and third days were tough.

I have won seven titles this year, including the MO Senior Amateur (Super Senior Division), The Porter Cup in Niagara Falls, Kansas City Amateur (70+ flight), the Maumelle Classic in Little Rock and the MO Senior Fourball.

That said, I do have other good news to report: On November 19, I am being inducted into the Kansas City Golf Hall of Fame. This is, as you can imagine, a great honor.

The Hall was established in 2012 as part of the Centennial of the Kansas City Golf Association. To date there are 21 honorees. Among them a few names you might recognize: Tom Watson, Jim Colbert, 1927 US Women's Amateur Champion Miriam Burns Horn, LPGA founder Opal Hill, and a host of individuals who made a mark in Kansas City area golf, but whose names are known mostly only to folks who are golf junkies, like me.

There were five nominees and the top three were elected after voting by about 52 people including the Board of Directors of the golf association, living members of the Hall, representatives of the Midwest Section PGA, and the Golf Course Superintendent's Association.

So, you're asking yourself, what did he do to deserve this? Well, a brief summary: I have won 44 championships, was runner-up in 32 others, won the "Kansas Senior Slam"which includes the Senior Amateur (3x), Senior Fourball (5x), the Senior Match Play (2x) and "The Railer"Stroke Play  Chamionship. When I won The Railer I set records for the lowest score (10 under par),margin of victory (14 strokes) and was the oldest champion at 71yrs, 7 months.

I could go on...there's more, but you get the picture. It is a humbling honor to have been on the ballot. Even more to have been selected. 

BTW: It's easy to throw numbers around when discussing this, but there is another number that is equally important: 51. .. on November 27 my wife, Pat, and I will mark 51 years of marriage (and they said it wouldn't last!). She should be in the wives' Hall of Fame.
